The Forgiving Sea I began in 2016 as an interactive painting in my studio. The goal of the painting was to create an interactive event for all people to experience forgiveness in a physical way. This first painting of the series invited viewers to write a name of someone they wish to forgive and when the painting was full of names, painted them away with a new layer of the sea. Underneath the final version that you see above are 27 layers of these community-driven markings that are now a memory for those who contributed.
